Six Points of Interest
For the time being, I'm moving forward with Antibor as a pointcrawl rather than a hexcrawl. Here's a smattering of random POI's I've written up.
The Dustweir Knowledge Mines
POI 17049; Savannah in The Spine
An ancient archive, recognizable by enormous hyperboloidal cooling towers rising out of the savannah. Four entrances lead to a complex of twelve interface terminal rooms surrounding a huge central databank. Prisoners of The Initiative are sent here to operate the neural links in the terminal rooms until their brain stems are fried or their sentences elapsed (unlikely). The complex is guarded by 46 mercenaries from the Company of the Silvered Spur, led by the Janissary Halla Rix. A series of partially functional coolant tunnels under the complex are home to 23 Pelagians (and their pet Giant Octopus) who resent the presence of the miners.
Dorifri Tor
POI 757; Savannah in Tesvara
The gold-and-purple-clad Thaumaturges Dylbra and Lyralesa toil in their tower over a Kobellin anodic dance music deck, weaving a pastiche of exuberant rhythms dredged up from all eras of history. Though intensely chaotic in demeanor, they are basically benevolent. When threatened, they can cast a glamer disguising their tower as a stately pine tree.
They will pay handsomely for musical samples, recordings, motifs, snippets, or notation from the World that Was.
Mehmet The Drowned's Green Glass Sphere
POI 16000; Jungle in The Spine
9 rooms, six arranged & connected as the vertices of a tetrahedron and three arranged vertically in the middle. Foes include two ambulatory diatomarls, a thoul, and twelve skeletal Iotian pirates, cursed to guard their Captain's loot for eternity.
One room is only accessible by turning a series of dials on the door. At the center of the dial is a hideous, distorted face that matches that of the The Leering Man. The code can be learned by traveling to POI 10700 and looking into the statue's eyes. The room contains an ivory coffin with the bones of a child, six scrolls of Ektashi Heresy texts, a chest of fine silk clothes, two pistols, and a sack of 1,670 besants.
The Leering Man
POI 10700; Jungle in The Spine
A 50-foot tall granite statue of a man is covered with vines, save for his face which is twisted into a hideous (and vaguely nauseating) leer. If the vines are cleared away from the plinth, an inscription reads:
Life on the green Irð is queer I do not hold it dear. The sea I see, It spits at me, I spit back, My heart is black. Weary wisdom that I despise, Is yours if you but look into my eyes.
Staring into the statue's face incurs a save vs. Blights to avoid feelings of nausea and existential angst. Those who succeed will notice a pattern of glyphs around the statue's iris, these provide the code to the ninth room of [[Mehmet the Drowned's Green Glass Sphere]].
The Wreck of The S.S. Humility
POI 17692, Xenoformed in Madding Fields
8 rooms. An alabastrine temple-ship that crashed-landed milennia ago, overgrown with fungal xenoflora. Long-since looted for most useful tech, but so far none have managed to break into the Inner Sanctum., which contains The Gentle Thurible of Iucon.
The outer rooms are currently home to a Mycelian infestation.
The Den of The Bleak Mirror
POI 16613, Chaparral in Madding FIelds
73 rooms, contains The Mask of the Polychromatic Absolution. A maze of cubic rooms with mirrored walls, some of which can be traversed. The Glamered Guardian (10 HD) wanders the rooms semi-randomly and can prevent people from leaving by subduing their reflection and taking it to his lair at the center of the labyrinth.
