Mask 23: The Mask of Yngta Pé

I have been tagged by Jay_zer0 to write a magic mask for Stella's mask relay. Mistuh has requested to go next.

The Mask of Yngta Pé

Dun-hued & nondescript, with a crinkly texture, conforming closely to the contours of one's face. Once donned, it fuses with one's skin & cannot be removed.

Yngta Pé was a minor archimage who appears briefly in the annals of the Aeon of Games & Revelry. According to Mssr. Lumivix's authoritative De Magorum Re, she adhered to that perennial dualist doctine which holds all phenomena to be an admixture of two primordial forces: love & strife, or attraction & repulsion. Pé's innovation was to ally herself entirely with the force of attraction -- it is said that she prognosticated an ultimate universal destiny wherein all matter would converge on a single point -- a final victory of love over strife. Her practical research was somewhat less spectacular: most of her surviving monographs concern the minutiae of molecular adhesion.

The Wearer of Yngta Pé's mask may peel a sallow strip off of it, taking 1d6 damage in the process. Strips can be used to work adhesion-related spells:

If the wearer of Yngta Pé's mask is killed, all within [Wearer's Level] x 5' must save vs. Strange Attractors or be inexorably drawn into a gravity well centered on the dead wearer, lasting 1d6 rounds. For every level above 15, there is a 1% chance that the well collapses into a singularity, annihilating everything within [Level] x 10' before exploding into a nova of Hawking radiation.1

  1. The author recuses himself from drafting rules for this unlikely contingency, trusting that the reader will acquaint themselves with the physics in question to the degree called for by the mores & conventions of their table.
